- a town on the Thames in Oxfordshire. It is famous for the rowing races held there during the Henley regatta, an event that began in 1839 and takes place over five days every July. It is a fashionable event, attended by many rich and famous people, and is one of the sports and cultural events held every summer which together are known as the Season.
