- (1914-1999) one of America's most famous baseball players. His popular name was 'Joltin' Joe'. He played for the New York Yankees (1936-51) and helped them to win nine World Series. He was named Most Valuable Player in the American League three times and was chosen for the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. DiMaggio married the actor Marilyn Monroe in 1954 but the marriage lasted only nine months.
