Guinness World Records
/ˌɡɪnɪs wɜːld ˈrekɔːdz/
/ˌɡɪnɪs wɜːrld ˈrekərdz/
- a book, published every year, which gives all the records achieved in a very wide range of fields and activities. For example, the names of the oldest, tallest, richest and fastest people in the world are all given. The book was first published in 1955 as The Guinness Book of Records and is now so popular that it is available in many different languages. People sometimes talk of doing something that has never been done before just to get into (= have their names mentioned in) the book.
