Burt Lancaster

- (1913-94) a US actor who was a Hollywood star in the 1950s and 1960s. He began his career as a circus acrobat. He was known for playing strong characters and for his big smile. Lancaster won an Oscar for Elmer Gantry (1960). Among his other films were From Here to Eternity (1953), Trapeze (1956), The Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), The Leopard (1963), Atlantic City (1980), Local Hero (1983) and Field of Dreams (1989).
