Britart
/ˈbrɪtɑːt/
/ˈbrɪtɑːrt/
- a type of art created by a group of young British artists, including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and the Chapman Brothers, especially during the 1990s. Britart caused controversy because it does not follow traditional styles and, as well as paintings and sculptures, includes collections of objects and things designed to shock people. It has been particularly supported by Charles Saatchi and has been shown in the Saatchi Gallery in London since 2003.
