Brink's Mat
/ˌbrɪŋks ˈmæt/
/ˌbrɪŋks ˈmæt/
- a British company, the owner of a building for storing valuable things at Heathrow Airport. In 1983 thieves stole gold worth £26 million from the building. At that time it was Britain's largest robbery. The police spent many years investigating the crime, but it is still not certain that they have caught all the criminals. A lot of the money was never found and there have been nine murders of people who were connected with the crime. It is one of those crimes, like the Great Train Robbery, that the British public and press like to talk about.
