Matt Busby

- (1909-94) a British football player and manager. He was a successful player for Manchester City and Liverpool in the 1930s but is best remembered as the manager of Manchester United (1945-69). Several members Busby's team, who were known as the ‘Busby babes’, died in a plane crash in Munich in 1958. Busby rebuilt the team after the crash and it became the most successful team in England, winning the European Cup in 1968. Busby was made a knight in 1968.
