  1. two Italian-Americans, born in Italy, who were executed in the US in 1927 for the murder of two workers during a robbery at a Massachusetts factory, although the evidence against them was not very strong. Nicola Sacco (1891-1927) and Bartolomeo Vanzetti (1888-1927) were anarchists (= people who believe there should be no laws or government). Many people thought that they were found guilty because of their political views and there were strong protests. The city of Boston decided in 1997 to honour Sacco and Vanzetti with a statue.
