- a children's book (1863) by Charles Kingsley. It is about a small boy who works cleaning chimneys, escapes from his cruel employer and falls into a stream, where he meets the little creatures who live there, the water-babies. It is a moral story about good and evil. Many people remember the names of two of its characters especially: Mrs Bedonebyasyoudid, who is fierce, and Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby, who is very kind.
