- a US newspaper that was published each week in New York, originally in Greenwich Village. It was known especially for its articles on entertainment and the arts. It first appeared in 1955 as a newspaper for hippies and others with an 'alternative' culture, but gradually became more traditional. It was distributed free in New York City. The last print edition was published in 2017. The paper was available online until 2018, when the company closed. see also Obie
