CultureBand-Aid™ is a US make of plaster, made by Johnson & Johnson. They were first made in 1921 and are now so common that Americans use the name for any plaster or bandage. In 1984 the name Band Aid was used for the very large pop group that recorded a charity song called ‘Do they know it's Christmas?’ to raise money for countries in Africa that were suffering from famine (= lack of food). Band Aid 20 and Band Aid 30 were groups that got together in 2004 and 2014 to release updated versions of the song, also to raise money for Africa. see also Live Aid
