Little Rock
/ˈlɪtl rɒk/
/ˈlɪtl rɑːk/
- the capital and largest city of the US state of Arkansas. It is an industrial centre on the Arkansas River. It became known around the world in 1957 when President Eisenhower sent US Army forces there to protect African Americans who wanted to attend city schools with white people. This caused a lot of violence. Bill Clinton later lived in Little Rock as the governor of Arkansas (1978-80 and 1982-90) before he became President.
