- a novel (1934) by the US writer F Scott Fitzgerald. It is about the unhappy marriage of a rich American couple, Dick and Nicole Diver, living on the French Riviera in the 1920s. The story was based on the Fitzgeralds' own marriage problems. A film version was made in 1962.
