  1. Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956) an English writer of children's books, known mainly as the person who created Winnie-the-Pooh. The books in which Pooh appears, Winnie-the-Pooh (1926) and The House at Pooh Corner (1928), came from stories Milne invented for his son Christopher Robin. He also wrote collections of poetry for children, including When We Were Very Young (1924) and Now We Are Six (1927). All of these are still very popular with children today. Milne also wrote plays, including Toad of Toad Hall (1929), adapted from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.
