► disappointing not as good as you hoped or expected:  The test scores have been disappointing.
► awful very bad or unpleasant:  The traffic was awful.
► terrible extremely bad:  The hotel food was terrible.
► horrible very bad or upsetting:  The weather was horrible all day.
► appalling formal very bad and very shocking:  The country has an appalling human rights record.
► atrocious extremely bad:  Living conditions in the refugee camps were atrocious. My spelling is atrocious.
► horrendous formal very bad or very frightening or shocking:  Police are looking for the man responsible for such a horrendous crime.
► abysmal formal very bad in quality and of a very low standard:  The quality of care at the hospital was abysmal.
► lousy informal very bad in quality:  We had lousy seats and I couldn’t see the game at all.
