单词 law
释义

law/law/ noun

a rule of conduct formally recognized as binding or enforced by authority

the whole body of such rules, comprising common law, civil law, and statute law

Law is a rule (or body of rules) routinely enforced by officials, and (unlike ethical and other rules) backed by sanctions if disobeyed. Laws may be criminal (threatening punishment for anti-social acts), civil (permitting suits between civilians, for example for damages or injunctions or divorce), or constitutional, enabling a citizen to challenge the state.
