Karma (a Sanskrit word meaning ‘action’) is a law of cause and effect whereby virtuous actions result in happiness in the future (of this lifetime or a future lifetime) and unvirtuous actions result in suffering. Much of the practice of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism is directed towards accumulating good karma and avoiding bad karma.
