(treated as sing. or pl) unauthorized drawings or writing painted in a public place, esp on a wall
[pl of Italian graffito: see graffito]
Graffiti is a plural noun and should theoretically be followed by a plural verb. It comes from Italian and has a regular Italian singular form, graffito. In English, however, this singular form is rare and its use tends to sound pedantic. The form graffiti is therefore commonly used with a singular verb to refer to a single drawing (a graffiti) or to drawings collectively (Graffiti is a good way of telling people your message)
