Marcos, Ferdinand

/ (1917–89), president of the Philippines 1965–86; full name Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos. Amid charges of corruption and political intrigue he was unable to secure his 1986 re-election and was forced into exile after a government takeover by a front led by Corazon Aquino, wife of Benigno Aquino (1932–83), who had been assassinated by Marcos forces.
