A large white edible piddock (mollusc) which occurs in the Caribbean and on the east coast of North America.
Barnea costata, family Pholadidae.
There is also a white species, P. porrigens, sometimes called angel wings or ‘savoury oyster’, which is much smaller, and thinner, but otherwise similar.
