A genus of large African and South-East Asian trees (family Sterculiaceae); (also mansonia) a tree of this genus, especially the West African M. altissima, or the hardwood obtained from it.
Origin
Early 20th century. From scientific Latin Mansonia from the name of F. B. Manson (fl. 1905), a forester in Burma who collected the first specimens of M. gagei + -ia.
