A large European moth of mostly subdued coloration, with a pale blue band on the underwing.
Catocala fraxini, family Noctuidae.
Yes we caught a Clifden Nonpareil here at Longstone on 11/9....
Also this year on St.Mary's a Clifden Nonpareil had been trapped, so we were full of optimism and were sure we would get some good moths and some good birds.
Origin
Mid 18th century: from Clifden (now Cliveden), the name of a village in Buckinghamshire, England, and nonpareil.
