A type of knot tied with two round turns and a half hitch, and used typically to bind a rope to a spar, a ring, or the shackle of an anchor.

Late 18th century; earliest use found in David Steel (fl. 1765–1810). Origin uncertain; perhaps from the personal name Magnus, or an altered form of Magner's + hitch.
