Origin
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in The Penny Cyclopaedia. From Urdu čil-ġoza chilgoza seed or cone from Indo-Persian čil-ġōza pine cone (in modern Iranian Persian as čil-ġūza) from čil- + gōz walnut, (with distinguishing word) nut, seed. With forms in chal- compare Pashto chalghoza.
