Any of several flowering plants of either of two closely related genera, Silene and Lychnis (family Caryophyllaceae), having sticky stems, seeds, etc.; especially a Eurasian campion of rocks and crags, L. viscaria, with spikes of bright pink flowers and often dark sticky bands around the stem beneath each node (also called red catchfly).
