In some forms from the name of Jedburgh (in Scots also Jeddart, Jedhart, Jethart, †Jedworth, †Jedwood, etc.), a town in the Scottish Borders, where summary justice was said to have been meted out, perhaps with reference to the summary acts of pacification of the Borders carried out under King James VI + justice. |
