2 Logic. Of a conversion: by which the quantity of the proposition is changed from universal to particular. Frequently in conversion per accidens (also called conversion by limitation), opposed to simple conversion.
Origin
Early 16th century; earliest use found in Thomas Paynell (d.?1564), translator. From post-classical Latin per accidens from classical Latin per + accidēns, usually after ancient Greek κατὰ συμβεβηκός (Aristotle).
