In aphids and coccids: a sexually reproductive individual. Usually in plural Compare sexupara.
Female sexuales are wingless and oviparous, while the males may or may not be wingless..
Origin
Late 19th century. Originally (in plural) from scientific Latin sexuales, plural, use as noun of masculine or feminine plural of post-classical Latin sexualis; in later use (in singular) apparently with loss of -s by confusion with the English plural ending -s, perhaps also influenced by the post-classical Latin neuter singular sexuale.
