Originally from classical Latin Homērista reciter of Homer, rhapsodist from Hellenistic Greek Ὁμηριστής rhapsodist, actor of Homeric scenes from ancient Greek Ὅμηρος Homer + -ιστής. In later use independently from the name of Homer + -ist.
