In Balkan and East European cuisine: a thin pancake, often served with a sweet or savoury filling.
Origin
Late 19th century. Probably variously from Serbian and Croatian palačinka, Slovene palačinka, Czech palačinka, and similar forms in other Slavonic languages, all in sense ‘pancake’ from Hungarian palacsinta, with substitution of Slavonic diminutive suffix -inka for -inta.
