A small perennial herbaceous plant found in marshy habitats in temperate Eurasia, Teucrium scordium (family Lamiaceae), having pinkish-purple flowers and leaves which have a strong scent when crushed.
Origin
Mid 16th century; earliest use found in William Turner (d. 1568), naturalist and religious controversialist.
