Characteristic or suggestive of the novels of ‘Ouida’; specifically (of a male character) impossibly perfect; handsome and accomplished to an implausible extent.
Origin
Early 20th century; earliest use found in The Westminster Gazette. From Ouida, the pen name of the English novelist Marie Louise de la Ramée (apparently a childish mispronunciation of Louise) + -esque.
