More fully osteitis fibrosa cystica: a disorder characterized by thinning and erosion of bone, often with circumscribed areas of lysis and with fibrosis in areas of resorption, typically seen in hyperparathyroidism. In early use also: any of various other conditions in which there is fibrosis or cystic change in bone, especially fibrous dysplasia (now rare or disused ).
