More fully rooikrans tree. A yellow-flowered leguminous shrub, Acacia cyclops, introduced to southern Africa from western Australia as a method of stabilizing coastal soils, and now widely naturalized there and regarded as an invasive weed.
Origin
Early 20th century. From Afrikaans rooikrans from rooi red + krans wreath, in allusion to the red aril of the seed.
