1920s; earliest use found in Antiquaries Journal. From Ringerike, the name of a district centred on Honefoss north of Oslo in Norway, after similar uses in Norwegian, e.g. Ringeriksk of Ringerike, Ringeriksten Ringerike stone, Ringeriksgruppe Ringerike group (of stones).
