Origin1950s; earliest use found in Language. Probably shortened from Olonetsian, but perhaps either from Russian olonec-, or directly from Olonec (also transliterated Olonets), the name of a town (also known as Aunus) and former province in north-western Russia, now part of the Republic of Karelia within the Russian Federation.
