Origin

Late 17th century; earliest use found in Robert Plot (bap. 1640, d. 1696), naturalist and antiquary. From post-classical Latin octodesexcentenarius, probably a blend of classical Latin octo dē sexcentīs eight from six hundred (from octo eight + from + sexcentīs, ablative of sexcentī six hundred: see sexcentenary noun) and centēnārius.
