Designating or relating to a spiral arrangement of leaves in which there are eight leaves in each turn of the spiral about the stem, and thus eight vertical rows of leaves in the phyllotaxis.
Origin
Mid 19th century; earliest use found in Robert Bentley (1821–1893), botanist and pharmacognosist. From Byzantine Greek ὀκτάστιχος of eight verses + -ous; compare -stichous.
