fuller's teasel

A teasel with stiff bracts which curve backwards from the prickly flower head.
- Dipsacus sativus, family Dipsacaceae.
- Hence, the fuller's teasel is called ‘sativus’ and the roadside teasel is called ‘fullonum.’
Origin
So named because it was formerly dried and used for raising the nap on woven cloth.
