More fully Entlebucher mountain dog. A stocky medium-sized breed of dog from the Swiss Alps originally used by cattle-herders; a dog of this breed, having a short coat with black, brown, and white markings.
Origin
1930s; earliest use found in The Times. From Entlebuch the name of a municipality and region in the canton of Lucerne, central Switzerland, where the breed is thought to have originated + -er, after German Entlebucher, Entlibucher (adjective).
