Any of several pigeons of the genus Columba occurring in the eastern Caribbean; especially the scaly-naped pigeon, C. squamosa. More fully ramier pigeon.
Origin
Late 18th century; earliest use found in Maria Riddell (1772–1808), poet. From Caribbean French ramier from French ramier wood pigeon, short for colon ramier from colon, variant of columb + ramier living in a wood, wild from ram branch + -ier.
