1 North American. Any of various trout found in mountain streams, such as the brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis, and the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri; especially (in later use) a form of the cut-throat trout, Salmo clarki.
2 Australian and NZ. Any of several fishes of the southern genus Galaxias (family Galaxiidae), found chiefly in mountain streams.
