A mineral originally regarded as a niobium-rich analogue of tapiolite (especially as the niobium-rich endmember of a series with tapiolite), and later as a tantalian and ferroan variety of columbite, but now discredited as a species.
Origin
Late 19th century; earliest use found in Journal of the Chemical Society. From German Mossit, from Moss, the name of the town in southern Norway close to which the mineral was found, + -it.
