Either of two similar plants of the family Asteraceae (Compositae), stinking chamomile, Anthemis cotula, and wild chamomile, Matricaria recutita, both of which are strongly scented and have flowers composed of white ray florets with yellow discs.
Origin
Late 16th century; earliest use found in Henry Lyte (1529–1607), botanist and antiquary.
