A form of villeinage in which the terms of service were not specified or limited, as distinguished from privileged villeinage.
Origin
Early 16th century; earliest use found in John Rastell (c1475–1536), lawyer and printer. After post-classical Latin villenagium purum, Middle French pure vilenage.
