A kind of topography resembling karst in ground other than limestone, produced by subterranean erosion rather than solution of rock.

1950s. From pseudo- + karst, ultimately after German Pseudo-Verkarstung (W. von KnebelHöhlenkunde xix. 183; the usual German term is Pseudokarst). Compare Italian pseudocarsismo (noun), pseudocarsico (adjective).
