A false Christ; a person pretending to be the Christ or Messiah.
Origin
Late Middle English; earliest use found in John Wyclif (d. 1384), theologian, philosopher, and religious reformer. From pseudo- + Christ, after post-classical Latin pseudochristus false Christ (Vetus Latina) or its etymon Hellenistic Greek ψευδόχριστος (New Testament: Mark 13:22).
