A hymn sung in procession at a religious festival.
Origin
Late 17th century. From ancient Greek προσόδιον processional song, use as noun (short for προσόδιον μέλος) of neuter of Hellenistic Greek προσόδιος (adjective) processional (though this is apparently first attested later) from ancient Greek πρόσοδος approach, procession + -ιος, suffix forming adjectives.
