A bright green cyanobacterium of the class Prochlorophyta, characterized by the presence of both chlorophyll a and b and the lack of phycobilins (and so resembling the chloroplasts of higher plants).
Whether the prochlorophytes are taxonomically distinct from other cyanobacteria is under debate..
