Messapic

A pre-Roman language known from several hundred inscriptions (mostly funerary) found in the Salentine peninsula of south-eastern Italy (modern Apulia), which are written in two similar alphabets, both of Greek origin.

1930s; earliest use found in Willem Laurens Graff (b. 1890). From classical Latin Messāpii (plural) inhabitants of Messapia + -ic.
